Traurige Hotels

Colonising the coastline for decades, the seaside hotel is reshaping the landscape by building a setting that has become typical of beach holidays. It can be found in most souvenir photos but almost goes unnoticed as it is part of the decor. A place of passage and season, the hotel remains an ephemeral location for the tourists who stay there. It is also a reflection of  mass tourism expansion and its economy, imposing its architecture on entire regions, standardising views and images, impacting on the social behaviour of both locals and tourists.

Off season, the seaside hotel loses part of its raison d'être , being specially built for a certain type of activities. Taking over an entire space and resources for only a few months a year, its future in the coming decades is increasingly uncertain.
